5Stay on trackMonthly reviews, scoring and coaching
You've had another year where things moved, but not quite fast enough, not quite in the right direction. You know you're capable of more. You just haven't had the structure, the clarity, or the honest conversation to make it happen.
What your Best Year Yet
actually looks like
Best Year Yet coaching is about results, not reflection for its own sake. Here is what clients consistently tell me has changed.
You know what you actually want
Not the vague answer you've been giving. A specific, written 12-month vision that makes decisions easier, because you know what you're working towards.
Your plan survives contact with real life
Monthly coaching sessions mean your goals get adjusted, not abandoned. Progress is scored, tracked, and owned. Nothing gets quietly dropped.
You stop sabotaging yourself
The inner critic that keeps you playing small gets named, challenged, and replaced with something you can actually choose to believe. Most clients say this is the moment things shift.
Your whole life moves, not just one part
Best Year Yet looks at every role you play. Work, family, health, finances. You decide where to focus. The plan covers all of it, and the breakthroughs often happen where you least expected.
You make decisions more quickly
When you know your values and guiding principles, the hard calls become clearer. You're no longer weighing up every option from scratch. Your principles do the heavy lifting.
You have real accountability
The coaching relationship means someone is paying attention to what you committed to. Not to catch you out, but because follow-through is where the difference gets made.
A proven framework.
Your specific plan.
Best Year Yet is a structured 10-step process, built in a single workshop and reviewed every month. Here is what we work through together.
Your 12-month successful outcome
Written in the present tense, specific and scored. You leave the first session knowing exactly what you are working towards and how far you have to go.
Values and lessons
We uncover what truly drives you, and distil the last 12 months' experience into three guiding principles. Short statements that help you make better decisions all year.
Replacing your limiting belief
We name the one belief that holds you back most, and create a new empowering belief to replace it. This is the part most clients say changed everything.
Breakthrough themes and annual goals
Using the Wheel of Life, we identify where breakthroughs will have the most impact. Then set RAISE goals: Results-focused, Annual, Inspirational, Specific, and Energy-requiring.
Monthly reviews and coaching
Each month you score your progress, set new actions, and bring your reflections to the coaching session. The Curve platform keeps everything tracked. Progress becomes visible.
"One of my guiding principles is 'Structure liberates.' Unless I put things in my diary, they are unlikely to happen. So the kids' family events are now in my work diary, along with walks with my wife and the occasional tennis session. Being in my diary gives me an odd kind of permission to do them."
Working with Alex Patient
I have spent over 20 years developing leaders — including as a director at NatWest — and the past four years working purely as a leadership coach. I have coached individuals and teams at organisations including Deloitte, ThoughtSpot, the Financial Conduct Authority, and BMC Software, alongside founders of growing businesses.
That matters. This is not a framework I deliver. It is one I believe in, because I have seen what it does. My business financials have improved significantly. I am taking on bigger projects. And I am more present in the parts of my life that actually matter to me.
The first conversation is free, no-obligation, and genuinely useful. If Best Year Yet is not the right fit for you, I will say so.
Best Year Yet coaching works well
when you recognise yourself here
You are a leader, professional, or business owner who knows you are capable of more, but something keeps getting in the way.
You have set goals before and they have drifted. You want a system with real accountability, not just a list of intentions.
You want your work and personal life to move together, not to sacrifice one for the other year after year.
You are at a point of change, a new role, a growing business, a shift in priorities, and you want to move forward with intention.
You want someone who is direct with you, not just encouraging. A coach who will ask the questions you have been avoiding.
You are prepared to invest 12 months in the process. Genuine change takes time, and you are ready to commit to it.
What people usually ask
Best Year Yet is a structured programme with a specific 10-step framework, not an open-ended series of conversations. It starts with a planning workshop, produces a written plan, and uses a digital tracking platform to measure progress every month. That combination of structure, coaching, and visible progress data is what makes it stick.
The initial Best Year Yet workshop runs for around half a day. After that, we meet monthly, with each session typically running 60 to 90 minutes. The full programme runs for 12 months, with quarterly reviews to ensure you are getting the value you need.
Yes. All sessions are available via Zoom, and a significant number of my clients work with me entirely online. The process works just as well remotely. The first consultation can also be online.
Best Year Yet has both individual and leadership versions of the plan, and there is also a co-founder format for business partners. Many clients use it alongside their professional development within an organisation. If you are unsure which approach suits you, the free consultation is a good place to work that out.
It is a straightforward conversation, usually around 30 to 45 minutes. We talk about where you are, what you are trying to achieve, and whether Best Year Yet coaching is the right fit. There is no pitch, no pressure, and no obligation. If it is not the right fit, I will tell you.
In their own words
Three clients, three different situations. They got clarity on what mattered, and then they acted on it. That's what made it their best year yet.

"I felt like I was talking to a friend who was just challenging me a lot, rather than a coach doing it for the sake of coaching. There had been a fog in my head. It started to clear."

"Our coaching has impacted every aspect of my life. The way I show up at work, with my family, my beliefs about myself. That holistic impact allows me to show up as my best self."

"I couldn't see it. I was too close to it. That conversation gave me clarity on things I'd been struggling with, and I made decisions that were of immediate benefit."
